The Santo Nino Dancing Angels
Our dance team is open to children third through sixth grade. Participants are introduced to dance team fundamentals that will prepare them for high school competition. The dancers will learn how to count and move to a beat, how to move in unison, and how to perform basic dance moves like jumps, kicks and turns. These fundamentals are taught within age-appropriate choreography that is fitting of a young girl representing a Catholic School.
The dancers practice 2 days a week immediately after school. In addition, the dancers will perform for 6-8 basketball game halftimes (Times and dates of performances vary). The dancers will learn 3 choreographies and will compete in a locally sponsored dance contest. Competitors in this contest come from dance schools that practice year round. Our dance team has historically kept pace with these highly competitive schools despite our short season. Our season begins in November, continues through March and culminates in our dance competition.
Parents are responsible for purchasing dance shoes for their dancer. Shoes generally cost about $30. A shoe exchange program is available. In this program a dancer shares the cost of buying shoes with another dancer who donates gently used shoes. As in all Santo Nino Athletic programs, our parents are expected to assist with fundraising.
